John W. Copple Funeral Rites Held Monday
Funeral Services were conducted Monday at the Malta Lutheran church for John Wesley Copple who died Friday. The services were conducted by Rev. Torgeir Haugland of the Elim Lutheran church.
John Copple was born July 9, 1877, in Sedan Kansas, the son of Ida and William Copple. In 1897 he married Elizabeth Baker.
Six children were born to this union before the Copples moved to Oklahoma in the year that territory became a state.
In 1913 he came to Montana with Roy Pendergraft and homesteaded 19 miles northeast of Malta. His family joined him there the next year. Four more children were born here. Later he moved to Bowdoin where he lived for five years and then he lived at Black Coulee for 12 years. When he retired from farming he lived in Malta until the time of his death.
Margie McCollom played the organ for the funeral. Barbara Faydo and Helen Brown sang the "Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."
Pallbearers for the last rites were William Ashby, John Smith, J.M. Oxarart, Karl Gjersing, Rex Kaufman and Byron Bebee.
Burial was in the Malta cemetery.
In addition to his wife, the deceased is survived by three sons, Charles D. Copple of Saco, Millard W. Copple of Bridger, and Lewis T. Copple of Malta; one foster son, Roy Pendergraft of Bridger, and four daughters, Mrs. Jessie Hoke of Belfry, Mrs. Albert Lush of Alma, Neb., Mrs. Clarence Olson of Malta, and Mrs. Zoe Wilson of Burbank, Calif.
