He was the son of Peter and Mary Ann (Schwenk) Bunner. He was born in New York and educated there.
After his graduation he turned to journalism. Here he rose quickly to assistent editor of the "Puck". It was a struggling comic weekly which he managed to develop into a popular and powerful social and political force.
He authored several popular books including; The Midge, The Story of a New York House, Short sixes and many others.
He made his home in Nutley, New jersey.
