SENECA TRIBUNE, Seneca, Kansas, Thursday, January 21, 1892. Page 4.
DIED
At his residence four miles north of Seneca, on January 13th, 1892, of heart failure, Marcius M. Burger. The funeral services were held at the residence and conducted by Rev. G. C. Lochridge of this city. Mr. Burger was born November 22, 1816, at Lockport, N. Y. where he lived until 1840, when he removed to and settled in Crawford county, Pennsylvania, where he soon afterward married Mary Emily Scoville, a sister of Daniel of this city. In 1833 Mr. Burger with his family came west and sought a home in Allamakee county, Iowa, where he was greatly prosperous as a farmer. From 1865 to 1870 he lived in Southern Illinois, moving in this county in 1870, and soon after, purchased the farm upon which he was living at the time of his death..

Mr. Burger was by precept and practice a noble man. He was noted for his honesty and his patriotism. Although prevented by his health from enlisting as a soldier during the war, he assisted and induced many of his neighbors to enlist by promising to see that their families were cared for during the soldier's absence, which promises were religiously kept at a cost of thousands of dollars to Mr. Burger. Many of his neighbors were indebted to him and every debt was cancelled in full if the debtor entered the army of the North. He leaves behind him the memory of a life's work well done. He was highly esteemed as a man and neighbor by every one who knew him, and greatly beloved b his family and friends. He leaves six daughters and one son to mourn his loss, all of whom are married and settled in life. His example as an honest man and patriotic citizen will live in the memories of his friends for years to come. Mr. Burger's children who survive him are Mrs. Emma Allison, and Mrs. Ella Johnson, of this county; Mrs. Lissa Snyder of this city; Mrs. Ida Shepherd, Portland, Oregon,; Mrs. Cora Taylor, Frankfort, Kansas; Mrs. Minnie Zimmerman of Colorado; and Harry D. Burger, who occupies and will inherit the home place.
