OBITUARY ELIZABETH COPPLE BURIED SATURDAY IN MALTA CEMETERY (Oct 1965) Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Copple, 88, who died Sept. 28 at hte Malta hospital, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Elim Lutheran Church with Rev. Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Malta cemetery. Pallbearers at the services were John Smith, Bill Ashby, Byron Bebee, Doug Thomson, Otis Erdahl and Alfred Vanek. Art Christofferson, accompanied by Mrs. Ray Johnson, sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Whiter Than Snow".
Elizabeth Risk Copple was born Aug 29, 1877, at Williamstown, Missouri, to Ed and Annie Baker, one of 13 children. While she was still a baby her parents moved to Kansas. In 1897 she married John Wesley Copple in Kansas. Six children were born to this union.
Copple came to Montana in 1913 to homestead and she and the family joined him one year later. Four more children were born here. Later they moved to Bowdoin where they lived five years. They moved to Black Coulee where they lived for 12 years before coming to Malta in 1937 where she made her home until the time of her death.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Jess (Alta) Hoke of Roundup, Mrs. Opal Lush and Mrs. Clarence (Joyce) Olson of Malta, Mrs. Ruth Ames of Sparks, Nevada; two sons, Lewis of Bridger, and Charles of Malta; foster son Ray Pendergreft of Bridger; a brother of Sedan, Kansas; a sister of Oklahoma; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband and four sons preceded her death.
