John Stephens

John L Stephens, 84 retired farmer and life resident of Monroe County, died Wednesday at his home on R. 2. He had been ill for two weeks. Survivors are his wife, Clara Stephens; eight daughters, Mrs. Henry Baxter, 332 W. 15th St, Mrs. Elbert Fleener, R. 2. Mrs. Lawrence Black, R. 5. Mrs. Vernon Deckard, Gosport R. 1. Mrs. Dale Blackwell, 2215 W. 3rd St., Mrs. Donald Baxter, Spencer R. 1. Mrs. James Floyd, R. 2. and Mrs. Otis Henderson, Columbus R. 3; three sons Kenneth and John Stephens, both of R. 2. and Ronald Stephens, at home; a sister, Mrs. Herman Flynn, 515 S. Grant; 36 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Stephens was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Gilead Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. W. C. Chafin will officiate. The body remains at the Day Funeral Home where friends may call afer 7 p.m. today. It will then be removed to the residence on R. 2. where it may be viewed after noon Friday.
