Guy served as a Seaman First Class, U.S.S. Mindanao (ARG-3), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided at 9 Shady Way, Greece, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Navy on June 1, 1943 and became a member of the crew of the Mindanao on November 6, 1943.

The Mindanao was anchored in Seeadler Harbor when the U.S.S. Mount Hood (AE-11) suffered an internal explosion while being loaded with ammunition at Seeadler Harbor, Manus Island during the war.

The Mindanao suffered extensive damage particularly to her superstructure, and aft in this explosion. 180 of her crew were either killed or wounded.

Guy died in the "Line Of Duty" in this explosion during the war.

It was later decided after the war that all those who perished at Seeadler Harbor should be awarded the " Purple Heart " !
