Robert married Henrietta "Etta" Wright in Clinton County, Indiana, on October 25, 1881, with the Rev. C. E. Lewis performing the marriage ceremony.
The couple moved first to White County, Indiana, and then to Chicago, Illinois. Over the years, Robert supported his family as a farmer, a carpenter, an insurance agent, a house painter, and a foreman at a steel mill. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
The couple had seven children live to maturity: Stella, Bert, Clarence, Guy, Glenn, Zeva, and Howard. Robert, his wife, and their children are in a photograph on page 84 of the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY HISTORY.
