Kenneth "Ken" De Forest Gray, Lincoln, NE passed away Monday, July 4, 2011. Born January 31, 1950 in Glendale, CA to Mary Jane and Donald C. J. Gray, Sr.

Ken's family lived in California during the war years where his father Don was employed with Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. In 1953 following the death of his grandfather, De Forest Einsel, the family moved to Hastings and helped in the operation of the Hastings Equity Grain Bin Company, a family business.

Ken attended Longfellow Elementary School and upon graduation from Hastings High School conducted his undergraduate work at Wesleyan University in Lincoln and continued his education at Villanova University in Villanova, PA.

Ken's primary quest in life, and his driving force, was a thirst for knowledge. He took many side trips in that quest; a high school debater and drummer in a dance band, a carpet and floor covering salesman during his time at Wesleyan, a health-care aide in Philadelphia while at Villanova, a seminarian in Washington, D.C. at Old Saint Mary's Church, and helping with property management at a public relations firm in Georgetown, MD. In Nebraska he chartered a credit union and Co-op, started and operated a popcorn business, was a caring and compassionate family services counselor in the funeral industry, and researched and commercially raised cabbage south of Lincoln at Blue Stem Farms.

Ken's love of life and ability to make long friendships filled his life with many memories and friends. Toward the end he cherished his time with his two thoroughbred race horses, Dan's Dream and Bumper's Shadow.
