Funeral services were held MOnday, Feb. 16, from the Slininger Chapel in Jefferson for Vernon N. Durlam, 53, Jefferson resident. The Rev David D Goin, minister of Central Christian Church in Jefferson officiated. Mrs. Dean McAtee was soloist, accompanied by Mrs Eldon Kinsman. Casket bearers were Vincent Phillips, W. J. Lawson, James Kearney, Jack Smith, Leo Murphy and Charles Borst. Interment was in Jefferson Cemetery. Vernon N. Durlam son of Mike and Faye Griswold was born December 10, 1916 at Knoke, Iowa, in Calhoun county, and died at Grand Junction Feb. 13, 1970. He moved with his family to Jefferson in 1918, spent his childhood in Jefferson and attended the Jefferson Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1935. In 1943 he united in marriage to Helen Witter and they made their home in California, returning to Iowa in 1947. To this union one son, Greg, was born. In 1959 he was married to Marian Peterson of Harlan. They made their home in Des Moines and Council Bluffs and moved to Jefferson in 1964 where they lived the remainder of his life. Preceding him in death were his wife, Marian, and one brother, Wayne Durlam. Survivors are his parents, Mr and Mrs Mike Durlam Sr; his son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Greg Durlam,five brothers, Loran, Gerald, Eugene and Wendell Durlam, all of Jefferson, and Mike Durlam Jr of Ames; three sisters, Lois Kenyon and Polly (Mrs Eldon) Kellogg of Storm Lake and Mary (Mrs Kenneth) Lynch of Jefferson.
