She was born in Chicago, to Elmer and Katherine Anderson. She was raised by Howard and Kay Crowl. She married Cable Ott on July 21, 1941, in Kahoka, Missouri. He passed away May 24, 1985. She had worked in retail sales for many years. Hazel enjoyed working crossword puzzles, doing needlework, cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes, watching birds and appreciating nature. Above all, she loved anything and everything about Christmas, especially her tree and her huge ornament collection.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy (Mark) Heerema of Comfort, Texas, and Sharon Scholey of Davenport; son, Randall (Julie Cohen) Ott of Safford, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren and one on the way. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jane, a brother, Ken, both of whom resided in Wyoming, and a son-in-law, Roger Scholey.
Hazel's family wishes to thank Davenport Lutheran Home staff and Hospice Compassus. Our family will always remember the wonderful care given to Mom by these great people. Mom loved her family—- adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed so much and will always be in our hearts. Christmas will always be remembered with Mom loving the lights, ornaments, and all of the good times, now shining over us from a better place. We love you—- Rest in peace.
