Served as a United States Ambassador to India from 1973 to 1975, and as a United States Representative to the United Nations from 1975 to 1976. Also served as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from New York in 1960, and as an Alternate in 1984, and 2000, and a United States Senator from New York from 1977 until 2001. He also chaired the Senate Committee from 1993 to 1995. After he left the Senate, he was replaced by former first lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton. A book entitled, "The Gentleman from New York: Daniel Patrick Moynihan," written by Godfrey Hodgson, was based on his life. (bio by: K)
