Frank Aloise Malkowski, Sr., age 92, of Cedarville, Michigan died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at his home.
Frank Malkowski was born January 28, 1919 in Cedarville the son of John Malkowski and Victoria (Dumbeck) Malkowski. Frank grew up in Cedarville, attending the one room schoolhouse on Swede Road. He helped his parents run the farm until he enlisted in the army in July of 1942. During his service years he was a cook. His service record shows he prepared meals according to military protocol, however he didn't bake bread.
When Frank came home from the army in December of 1945, he returned to the farm and in 1949 married Opal Wonders. They started their family together but when their youngest was three, Frank became a single parent, raising his three children in Cedarville. He worked for a couple of years as a mason tender and then went to work at the Cedarville Limestone Quarry in 1953. At the quarry he worked with explosives and for many years was the lead blaster. He retired from the quarry in 1982.
Frank always kept busy. He liked to cook (everything but bread), hunt, fish, and pick everything from mushrooms to berries. He was a gardener of both flowers and vegetables. He loved to play Euchre, Poker, and Wild Rummy cards, and of course he liked to blow things up. He helped many local friends and neighbors safely remove stubborn stumps and large rocks. Frank still lived on the farm, but he was mostly a hobby farmer for the last decade. He rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. Frank was a member of the St Stanislaus Catholic Church in Goetzville, and a member of the VFW.
Frank was survived by two daughters, Kathy Fleck and Marta Malkowski, both of Lake Lansing, Michigan and a son Frank Malkowski Jr. of Cedarville. Also surviving were six grandchildren, Brent Fleck, Erin Fleck, Todd Bennett, Angie Bennett, David Malkowski, and Dennis Malkowski; and four great grandchildren, Troy Bennett, Montana Bennett, Jordan Bennett, and Dakota Bennett. Frank was also survived by three sisters, Mary Wahl of Goetzville, Dorothy Stec of Stalwart, and Effie Walker of El Paso Texas, and his sister in law, June Malkowski of Seattle, Washington.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Tony Malkowski and Mike Malkowski, and three sisters, Cora Fountain, Wanda Dutcher, and Francis Pesinski.
