Serving for a time with Battery I, First regiment, he re-enlisted in the Fourth Cavalry, Gregg's Division, and Company H for "luck." At the close of the war he was mustered out a corporal.

Married in 1866 to Miss Lucy Clugh, the couple celebrated their 60th anniversary on May 29, 1926.

Mr. McElravy was of a genial, friendly disposition, and was well liked as attested by the host of friends who called at the home and by the beautiful floral tributes. He was well known throughout Forest and Clarion Counties, having spent the most of his long life in these places.
