Death: Sep. 26, 1991

Musician. Born in Glasgow, Kentucky, he was among the most successful saxophone instrumental artists of the 1950s and 60s. He started as a vocalist for "The Hilltoppers" in 1952 and by the mid 1950s, was musical director of Dot Records. Noted for playing two saxophones at once, he recorded over 25 albums of cover instrumentals for Dot. Many of his recordings outsold the originals, among them "Hearts of Stone", "I Hear You Knocking", "The Shifting, Whispering Sands", "Melody of Love" and "Marianne". In 1965, he formed the Billy Vaughn Orchestra which toured the US, Germany, Brazil, Korea and Japan. He died of mesothelioma. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)

Thank you, Mr. Vaughn, for the lovely music. You could do things with a melody that no one else can do...what talent! Rest peacefully, dear sir.
