Montreal Mayor. Drapeau served as the Mayor of Montreal, Quebec, from 1954 to 1957, and 1960 to 1986. As Mayor of Montreal, Drapeau made Montreal an international city, giving it an ultramodern Metro service, organizing Expo 67, and playing host to the 1976 Olympic Games. He also was part of many other of Montreal's 20th century events invluding, the innauguration of Place de Arts, annexation of Riviere-des-Prairies, Saraguay, Ville Saint-Michel, Pointe-aux-Trembles, and the construction of the metro system. The Parc des Iles and the Metro Ile Sainte-Helene were later renamed the Jean Drapeau Metro in his honor. He died in August 1999 at the age of 83.
