US Congressman. Born in Kearney, Missouri, he was educated at William Jewell College and taught in the grammar schools of Clay County, Missouri, (1867-70). He was clerk of the Clay County Court (1870-74), studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1875 and practiced in Plattsburg, Missouri. He moved to Wyandotte County, Kansas, in 1886, was involved in the live stock business and organized the Union Live Stock Commission Company in 1895. In 1897, he was elected as a Populist to the Fifty-fifth Congress, serving until 1899. An unsuccessful for reelection, he resumed his business pursuits until his death at age 69 in Kansas City, Missouri. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
