Edward Eugene Zandy, 83 of Endicott and Freeport Bahamas, died at his home in Freeport, Saturday, August 23, 2003. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother Val Zandy and a sister Leah Zandy. He is survived by a sister Sylvia Peters; a sister in law Virginia Zandy, both of Endicott; four nieces and nephews and their spouses Amalia (Molly) and Frank Korosec; Bonnie and Bob Nejeschleba; Ben and Judy Zandy, and Gene Peters and wife Anne Rutledge; his dear great nieces and nephews Francis and Bernard Korosec; Nicole and Monique Nejeschleba; Gina and Lisa Zandy and Elizabeth Peters; two great great nephews Taylor and Ross Korosec; also several cousins. Eddy was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School; a veteran of WW II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a lifetime member of Associated Musicians of Greater New York, Local 802 AFM. He was a professional trumpet player in the Glenn Miller Band, led by Tex Beneke, Ray McKinley and Buddy DeFranco, he also played with the Ina Ray Hutton, Claude Thornhill, Skitch Henderson and the Gene Krupa bands. Since 1968, he had lived in the Bahamas. One of his last performances was with the Apple Elliot Ensemble in the Bahamas.
A Memorial Service was held in Freeport, August 28, with the Right Reverend Msgr. Ambrose MacKinnon, Pastor of his church Mary Star of the Sea officiating.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday 2 pm at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 306 Odell Avenue, Endicott, with the Reverend Father Edward Zandy, cousin of Eddy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
The family will receive friends at St. Anthony of Padua Church Friday from 1 pm until Mass time at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church Learning Center, 306 Odell Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760 or Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish Family Community Center, 200 Grippen Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
