US Congressman. He served in the United States Army during World War I as a Private in the 386th Ambulance Company. He was elected to represent Minnesota's 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1939 to 1941. He unsuccessfully ran as an Independent candidate for United States Senator from Minnesota in 1936, and as a candidate for Governor of Minnesota in 1942.
