On January 13, 1968, he received a head injury during a game with the Oakland Seals, and he died 48 hours later at the age of 30. That same year a trophy called the Bill Masterson Memorial Trophy was established by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association, in his memory. After his death, his #19 jersey was officially retired by the Minnesota North Stars. (bio by: K)
