Dr Allen Casey Adams
Birth: Oct. 15, 1871
Izard County
Arkansas, USA
Death: Apr. 12, 1959
Washita County
Oklahoma, USA

Allen Casey Adams was the older of two sons born to Wythe Walker & Tabitha (Smith) Adams. He was born in Izard County, Arkansas - an area that had been home to his family for many, many years. He was named after the two doctors - Dr. Allen & Dr. Casey, who were in attendance when he was born. He married Nettie Blanche Williams on 1 November 1903 in Romulus, Pottawatomie Co., Oklahoma Territory.

The family believes Dr. Adams received his medical training at a college in Mountain Home, Arkansas. The college no longer exists and any family records are long lost.

Allen & Nettie had two daughters - Orena Marie & Leah Josephine. Orena was born in 1905 and died on 15 Nov 1917 of typhoid fever. Her father tried everything he could to save his daughter, but the fever was too strong. The family had a scant few weeks to grieve before 8-year old Leah was also stricken with the disease.

Frantic that he not lose both of his children, Dr. Adams designed a rectal drip to keep her hydrated while the fever raged. With his medical treatment and lots of prayer, Leah survived. She continued to run high fevers for several months and subsequently lost all of her hair from the fever.

Dr. Adams approached all aspects of his life with kindness and a determination to help those in need in any way he could. He and Nettie kept a "tenth" fund in a little wooden barrel that sat on a shelf in the kitchen. The money he and Nettie saved in the "tenth" fund was used to help homeless people, itinerant travelers, neighbors who had fallen on hard times and others in need.

His overriding philosophy of life was one of optimism. He looked for and found the good in the people around him and in the situations he encountered.

He was "Granddaddy" to his three grandchildren; he was "Uncle Doctor" to the many nieces and nephews who adored him.
