After graduation from high school, Bill joined the Army and shortly thereafter married his high school sweetheart, Gertrude Oller. He was later deployed to Europe where he served his country in WWII. After an honorable discharge, Bill returned to Kansas and worked in Isabel.
In 1972, the moved to Colorado Springs where he owned and operated his drywall company until retirement. Bill was a lifetime member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans and the BPOE Elks Lodge #309 where he served on the Trimble fund and as a Trustee.
He was also active in the American Legion Lorraine Post 98, the Masonic Lodge Delta #77, F.O.E. 3260 and Shrine Club. As a Shriner, he was always a big hit as a "clown" making balloons for many children. Bill was extremely outgoing and he lit up a room with his presence. He leaves his family and friends with many fond memories. Bill and Gertrude have been married 64 years.
He is survived by Gertrude, and their children Laile Wehling, Lorraine (Hal) Herbel, Lynn (Kathy) Wehling, Jane (Bernie) Brooks, 9 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His parents, infant child, Arthur and grandson, Bryan Brooks, preceded him in death.
A celebration of life will be held at Cappadona Funeral Home, 1020 East Fillmore Street, on Thursday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. A Luncheon will immediately follow at the Elks Lodge #309 located at 3400 North Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Health Care, 5526 North Academy Boulevard, Suite 180, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. The family extends their deepest appreciation to Odyssey for the care and comfort theey provided.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Cappadonna Funeral Home.
