Daniel was born Dec 23 1870 in Providence. Cache, Utah to John Heyrend Sr 1818-1904 and Rosina Bigler Heyrend.
His mother was not happy with the polygamist situation and left the family. Daniel was raised by his step mother Catherine Schmitt Heyrend. He was not very happy at home and spent many nights sleeping in haystacks in Providence. He left home and was on his own at an early age. He tells of wrestling with indians as a young man in Providence after hostilities ceased. He spent much time in Providence Canyon, which he dearly loved, even to the point of doing some prospecting there.
20 Jun 1894 Daniel married Johanna (Annie) Christine Lallatin in Pocatello, Idaho.. Daniel also started working for the railroad as a Switchman in 1894.
Daniel and Annie had 5 children, Daniel Fredrick, Lorene, Alice Rosina, Florence May, and Mark Lallatin.
He left the railroad for a while and ran a farm in Dingle, Idaho, a few miles northeast of Bear Lake and southeast of Montpelier, Idaho about 1913-1918. Daniel was an excellent farmer, raising blue-button potatoes that were of such a quality they were shipped overseas to assist in the war effort during World War I.
The family moved back to Salt Lake City in 1918, where he went to work for Utah Fire Clay Company.
Daniel retired in Juy 1937 in Salt Lake City after 43 years of service as a Switchman with the Union Pacific and Denver & Rio grande Western Railroads. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Wasatch Lodge No. 471. After retirement his time was devoted to his lifetime hobies of fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Daniel is buried in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
