He graduated from W. C. Overfelt High School, East San Jose, CA in 1972. He was a US Naval Aircraft Ordinance man and served on 4 aircraft carriers: USS MIDWAY, USS SARATOGA, USS RANGER and USS NIMITZ.
He made several Mediterranean, Pacific and Indian Ocean cruises and was involved in the Cyprus and Lebanon Crisis as well as the Iranian Crisis. In the US Army he served at Ft Polk LA, at Mainz Germany
