George Glenn of Las Cruces, N.M. and formerly of Tahoka departed this life on July 2, 2011, at the age of 86. He was born in Blum, Texas on May 23, 1925 to George W. and Kittie (Green) Glenn. After graduating from Tahoka High School, George joined the Navy December, 1942. He served in WWII and was honorably discharged June 11, 1946. George and Wanda (Tomlinson) were married November 1, 1949 in Lubbock, Texas. George entered Barbering College in Lubbock, Texas. Glenn's barber shop, Tahoka, TX was the place to catch up on all the local news.
With the family growing and longer hair becoming in fashion, George sold his building to Lynn County News and started work as a Rural Mail Carrier with the US Postal service. George delivered mail for approximately 24 years in Lynn County, driving 144 miles per day, 6 days per week. That's approximately 1,078,000 miles!! In the meantime, George became active with local youth baseball in 1960. George coached, then managed his own team, umpired and was eventually President of the local Little League Association. George helped influence and fashion the lives of several young men in the local area through his involvement not only in Baseball but at Tahoka High School as an athletics and band booster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; three brothers; and one grandchild.
Interment will be at the Tahoka Cemetery.
