Officer Edward W. Kuntz, DSN 3202, was hired as a civilian employee for the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department on June 29, 1959 and started as a clerk at the department's Bureau of Services until he was transferred to the Bureau of Field Operations on November 1, 1958. He was only there for a month when he was utilized at the 11th District Station on December 3, 1958. He received his commission on June 29, 1959, and entered the academy. After graduating from the academy, he was sent to the 11th District on September 26, 1959, for his first assignment as a police officer. On January 1, 1962, he was transferred to the 9th District, where he remained for the rest of his career. On February 18, 1983, he was awarded a Chief's Letter of Commendation for outstanding police work above the call of duty. Officer Kuntz retired on February 29, 1988 after 29.45 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Officer Kuntz was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean conflict and achieving the rank of Airman First Class. His son Edward followed in his father's footsteps and also went into the United States Air Force, being separated with an honorable discharge as a Lt. Colonel. It is worth noting that his son Edward was commissioned on the Saint Louis Police Department and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
