Funeral services were held on April 28, 1990 in the Afton Tabernacle. Interment followed in the Afton Cemetery.
She was born March 25, 1907 in Kaysville, UT to Gilbert Miller and Eliza Rachel Jones Turner.
In the spring of 1910 the family moved to Star Valley and made their home on Crow Creek above Fairview.
The family later moved to Sage Valley ID where her father homesteaded for the Ogden Livestock Company. When the children were old enough to go to school the Turner family moved to Fairview in the winter and back to Sage Valley in the summer. If a disease such as whooping cough or measles broke out, the family moved back to Sage Valley to escape the disease.
Lavon attended grade school in Fairview and was a top student winning many spelling bees when she traveled to other schools.
She attended Star Valley High School. During the coldest part of the winter she lived in Afton with the Hurd family.
On Aug 16, 1928 she married Orson Peter Erickson at Paris ID. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He died in 1978.
Her husband worked in Cokeville for a time before they moved to Montpelier, where they resided for about eight years. In April 1937 they moved back to Osmond and Pete worked at the Star Valley Swiss Cheese Company in Osmond.
She and Pete created and operated the Erickson Dairy Company in Afton and delivered the first pasteurized milk door to door for 15 cents a quart. Lavon owned and operated the first Gambles Western Auto Store and the Star Valley Credit Bureau in Afton. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Rex Wirthlin and Dave Horsley Ford Auto agencies in Afton.
In 1959 Pete and Lavon sold their dairy and moved to Utah where she worked as a bookkeeper for the Bintz Company in Salt Lake City.
After they retired in the late 1960s the Ericksons moved back to Afton and helped organize the Star Valley Senior citizens. Lavon served as the bookkeeper for a time.
Lavon was a member of the LDS Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher when she was 15 years old. She also served in the MIA on the stake Primary and Relief Society boards, on the stake genealogical committee as dance director and Relief Society president in the Afton 1st Ward.
She was a woman with much ambition and in some ways a woman before her time.
She homesteaded 320 acres in Sage Valley the year prior to her marriage.
