Thomas Joseph "Tommy" Sharpe was born to Edward E. Sharpe, Sr. and Eloise Hill Sharpe. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Thomas Sharp and Martha Ann Cooper Sharp of Lake City, Tennessee. His maternal grandparents were Joseph Benjamin Hill and Audrey Caraway Hill of Avon Park, Florida. Tommy was a funny and fun-loving person. He was a musician and played the drums from an early age up through his adult years. He was plagued with health problems in the last part of his life, due to being hit by a drunk driver. Late one night he was driving back to Tampa after visiting relatives in Avon Park, and a drunk woman ran a stop sign and hit his drivers side of the car. I think they call that a "T-bone collision". Tommy nearly died from the injuries he received in the accident. He was hospitalized for an extended time with numerous internal injuries and broken bones. His health steadily declined after that accident, and it was sad to see him in such poor health all those years. He loved life and loved his son, Sean, very much. I miss all the fun times we spent together growing up in the 1950s and 1960s in Avon Park. We had a group of neighborhood kids who spent every day together in the summers and after school and weekends. We would play marbles, ride bikes, climb trees, play hide 'n seek just before dark, and just lived an active and happy, carefree life. If we were hungry, we would eat from the neighborhood fruit trees. We had mango, avocado, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, kumquat, about 4 different types of guava trees, surinam cherries, mulberries, loquat and java plum trees at our fingertips. There was always something in season.
