Funeral Services To Be Held Sunday For C. L. Osborn

73-Year-Old Native Was Active in Civic, Church and Business Affairs
Carrol L. Osborn, who had the reputation of being "a fine gentleman", died at his home in Talmage early this morning, October 22, after a prolonged illness. He had been a lifelong resident of Talmage and vicinity, and was active in all community and in church affairs.Funeral services will be held at the Charter Oak Christian church at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. Ray Borgaard officiating. The casket will not be opened after the services.
Carrol Lafayette Osborn, son ofLyman and Annie Laurie Osborn, was born on March 17, 1886, at the farm homesouthwest of Talmage. He attended Grant district school and the Talmage public schools. After completing high school, he attended Boyles Business college inOmaha. He then returned to the farm, where he resided until 1923, at which timehe moved in the Talmage and spent his remaining years. On March 26, 1907, hewas married to Elsie Katherine Butz. To this union were born a son, MerlynCarl, and a daughter, Joata Ardell.
Mr. Osborne served for many years on the village board and the school board. He was a director of the Farmers Union Exchange, and a director of both the Farmers State Bank and the Bank of Talmage. He served on the election board for 35 years. He was a member of the Charter Oak Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for over 40 years; a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite Consistory, and the Order of Eastern Star. As a farmer, he was a pioneer leader in soil conservation practices. He will be remembered in the community for the constructive and progressive programs which he aided, both financially and by his service.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by: his wife, son, and daughter; daughter-in-law,Virginia Osborn; son-in-law, Edw. F. Bottcher; four grandsons, Lyman and Lon Edward Bottcher, and Denis and Merlyn Robb Osborn; and two great-grandchildren, Connie Lee and Larry Allen Bottcher.
Active pallbearers at the funeral will be Lyman and Lon Bottcher, Denis and Robb Osborn, Arnold Kreimer, and Stanley Ritter. Honorary pallbearers will be William H. Damme, Frank Brehm,Walter Kreimer, Charles E. Wood, Dr. C. T. Gritza, Dr. S. A. Smith, Henry Bohlken, and Delphus Busacker. Caseys are in charge of arrangements.
