Wilbur L. "Wib" Hassler, 76, of 2520 Main St., Peru, died at 12:25 a.m. May 2 in Heritage Manor Nursing Home, where he had been a patient for 19 days following a two-year illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church Peru, with the Rev. Douglas N. Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m. Thursday in the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
He was born Feb. 10, 1914, in Peru, to Louis and Emma Brechtel Hassler. He married Charlotte James Sept. 14, 1941, in St. John's Lutheran Church. He retired July 1, 1981, from the La Salle State Bank where he had worked for 40 years. He was a graduate of La Salle-Peru High School and Browns Business College. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the Philippines. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and had served on the church council at the time the new church was built. He was a former treasurer for the church, a member of the Lutheran Men in Mission and Peru American Legion. He was past president and treasurer of the La Salle-Peru Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife; a sister, Verna Hassler of Peru; two nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church.
