Goldie Helen Mahilo (nee Hodovan), 97, of Vermilion, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at her home after a short illness.

Born May 17, 1914 in Lorain, to Hungarian parents, Stephen and Eva (nee Bolvari) Hodovan. She was the first of six children and was named Aranka Ilonka. She lived at stop 7 in Lorain, then Elyria and for the past 53 years, she lived at Mahilo Meadows Farm in Vermilion.

Goldie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion where she had been active in the Altar and Rosary Society, life member of the AMVETS Post #22 Women's Aux. and VFW Post #7576 Women's Aux. where she was Chaplin for 15 years. She was also a member of the Farm Women, Birmingham Garden Club, and volunteered for the Red Cross and Cancer Society. With love she enjoyed crocheting items for hundreds and hundreds of people and making palm crosses for local churches and florist during Easter. She was an excellent seamstress, making many wedding gowns and veils. She also enjoyed gardening, dinning out, ceramics, china painting, jewelry making, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Donald (Alexis) Mahilo of Vermilion; daughter, Goldie Ann (Ken) Burrer of Elyria; 10 grandchildren: Aaron (Sarah) Mahilo, Brittany (Aaron Savage) Mahilo; Brooke (Joe) Mahilo Cogar, Ken (Linda) Burrer, Patti (Pat) Jarrell, Vikki (Ric) Bellottie, Scott (Luann) Burrer, Dawn (John) Orsik, Dale (Renee) Burrer, and Dana (Scott) Grimm; 18 great grandchildren with one on the way; 8 great-great grandchildren with one on the way; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Stephen, Adam, and John Hodovan; and sisters, Mary Lindner and Eve Fox.
Husband of 58 years Joseph Mahilo

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10:30 am followed by an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. The Reverend Ronald Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
