Donald Alvin Cassidy of Ramona, Calif, passed away May 19, at his home. He was born in Nebraska on November 11, 1920, to parents Bud and Hazel Cassidy, but was raised from an early age in Montana and considered himself a native Montanan.

After the death of his mother at age 6, his aunt and uncle, Earl and Pearl Love, raised him and his sister Betty along with cousins, Earl, Zada, Roy and Jessy. His parents, sister, aunt, uncle and cousin Earl predecease him.

After moving to Hawaii as a teenager, Mr. Cassidy served in the US Air Force during World War II. Because of his training in radio parts in the military, he began a 45-yr career in sales in the component industry, beginning in radio parts and ending in computer electronics.

In his early career, he was a member of Radio Pioneers. He served as President of Wesco Electronics, a highly successful electronic component distributor that he sold in 1969. He became a business entrepreneur, founding and operating several component related businesses that he eventually sold.

He retired in 1986 as President/CEO of Cetec Electronics of Southgate, CA, a distributor of computer electronic components. After returning to the San Diego area from Orange County in 1988, Mr. Cassidy became involved in many Ramona charitable organizations.

Because of his love for history, he became a docent for the Guy B. Woodward Museum, leading many local schoolchildren and out-of-town visitors on tours of the museum. He served on the board of the Ramona Community Concert Association, using his natural sales ability and out-going nature to solicit donations from local Ramona business people who grew to know him well.

He also served on the San Diego Country Estate Community Relations committee, was a retired member of the Ramona Rotary Club, and a member of the First Congregational Church of Ramona.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lila; daughter, Candace Pagano and husband Frank, of Ramona; son, Drew Cassidy, of Huntington Beach; and four granddaughters, Sabrina, Nikky, Angela, and Kirstyn. Survivors also include his cousins, Zada (Ward) Haukap of Utah, Roy (Sharlene) Love of Utah, Jessy Clark of Montana and Linda (Stuart) Pinkerton of Encinitas, CA.

A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 25, at 2pm, at the First Congregational Church of Ramona, 404 8th St., Ramona. Inurnment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Youth Building Fund of the First Congregational Church of Ramona. Published in The San Diego Union Tribune on May 23, 2004
