Man Found Dead Near His Home

Utahville – George Ball, 74, a resident of Utahville R.F.D. 1, was found dead Saturday morning on the private lane leading to his home, it was reported today by Dr. E. S, Erhard, County Coroner. It was believed that Ball died Friday sometime after 10 p.m. He had been in the habit of getting a friend to drive him to the lane leading to his home, and nearby residents said they saw a truck drive into the lane and unload a passenger about 10 p.m. It was assumed that Ball had ridden on the trucks which brought him home after a shopping trip here. Dr. Erhard said evidence showed that Ball had started to walk down the lane to his home with a large package of groceries and collapsed. Death was attributed to a heart ailment and as there was no evidence of foul play an inquest would not be held. The body was found by George Snow, a neighbor of Ball's early Saturday morning. The deceased is survived by his widow, who is in ill health and several children, none of who live at home. The Ball residence is about one mile off the highway between Glen Hope and Coalport in Beccaria Twp. (The Progress, Monday, December 7, 1942)
