U.S. Congressman. He attended Gould's Academy, graduated from Colby College Maine, in 1836 and was an instructor at the Foxcroft Academy, Maine. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1839 and proceeded to practice law in Dover, Maine. Entering politics, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress, serving (1847-49). After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
