U.S. Congressman. He studied medicine, was commissioned a physician and commenced to practice medicine in Bethel, Maine in 1813. He was appointed the first Postmaster of Bethel, serving 1815-33 and was the Oxford County Commissioner (1831-34). In 1833, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1837. After leaving Congress, he was executive councilor of Bethel (1843-45), a trustee of the State insane hospital in 1844 and president of Gould's Academy (1854-56). He also was the Bethel justice of the peace, until his death.
