Mrs. Nichols Rites Friday In Syracuse
Committal services will take place at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Oakwood Cemetery Chapel for Mrs. Sallie Van Kleeck Noxon Nichols, member of an old Syracuse family, who died Dec. 14 in Yakima, Wash. The Rev. Ernest Crounse, pastor of the First Reformed Church, will officiate.
Born in Syracuse on April 1, 1879, Mrs. Nichols was the youngest child of James and Sara Matilda Wright Noxon. Her grandfather, B. Davis Noxon, and her great-grandfather had both served on the State Supreme Court, and B. Davis Noxon had also been a state senator from Onondaga county.
After teaching in public schools of Syracuse and Staten Island, she was married to Leslie A. Nichols in Syracuse and moved to Yakima where they lived for 39 years. A funeral service was conducted there on Dec. 17.
Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Julia Nichols Gundry of Seattle, Wash.; a son, Leslie A. Nichols, Jr., of Rutherford, N.J.; a former member of The Post-Standard staff; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Another son, James Noxon Nichols, was killed in 1932 in a mountain climbing accident in Turkey.
