| Birth: | Jul. 12, 1841 | | Death: | Sep. 8, 1912 |  Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the Union Army in Company I, 1st West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on April 8, 1865 at Appomattox Station, Virginia. His citation reads "Capture of Confederate flag." He was one of fourteen 1st West Virginia Cavalry soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Civil War (the others being Corporal James F. Adams, Lieutenant Wilmon W. Blackmar, Captain Hugh P. Boon, Sergeant Richard Boury, Major Charles E. Capehart, Colonel Henry Capehart, 1st Sergeant Francis M. Cunningham, Commissary Sergeant William Houlton, Private Archibald Rowand, Chief Bugler Charles Schorn, Corporal Emisire Shahan, Sergeant Levi Shoemaker, and Private Daniel A. Woods).
