CALEDONIA, Minn. - Maxine Kathryn Betz, 87, of Caledonia died peacefully Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.

She was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Caledonia to Earl and Freida (Bennewitz) Miller. On Feb. 24, 1946, Maxine married Earl Betz at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Earl preceded her in death on April 16, 2009.

Maxine was a 1942 graduate of Caledonia High School, and prior to her marriage was employed at Caledonia Bakery and Albert's Grocery in Caledonia. In 1946, she and Earl moved to the family farm in Caledonia Township, where she lived until shortly before her death.

Maxine was an avid baker who always ensured she had cookies on hand for her grandchildren whenever they visited. Her grandchildren always commented that her cookies were the best because they included the secret ingredient of love.

Maxine is survived by her eight children, Kathy Betz of Rochester, Minn., David (Rhonda) of Spring Grove, Minn., Linda Betz and Joanne (Steven) Schuldt, both of Caledonia, Charles (Joan) of Eau Claire, Wis., Char (Keith) Meiners and Michael (Leah), both of Caledonia, and Kimberly (Eric) Seeger of Maple Grove, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; special cousin, Donald Bennewitz; and special friend, Selma Voight, who was like a sister to her.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Dale Betz; and infant daughter, Cindy.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 650 North Kingston St., Caledonia. The Rev. Jon Wolff will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery
