Philip W. Rhoda, Sr.
Sayre, Pa. — Philip W. Rhoda, Sr., age 67, of Hornby Road in Corning, NY, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Robert Packer in Sayre, PA.
Philip was born in Corning on October 18, 1943, to Elmer and Julia (Bennett) Rhoda. He served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1968. He married Alberta White in 1966 and was preceded in death by her in 2008. Philip retired from Ingersoll – Rand in Painted Post as a mechanic for forty years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He was very close to his family and loved spending time with them.
He is survived by his daughters: Karen (Bill) Howe of Cortland, NY, and Roberta (Bill) Letts of Painted Post; son, Philip (Teri) Rhoda, Jr. of Corning; grandchildren: Matthew Rhoda of Corning, Felicia McConnell of Campbell, Julia Schosger of Painted Post, Paul (Vicki) Richardson of Rochester, NY, Ryan (Liz) Richardson of Amherst, Angel Howe of NJ, James (Teresa) Howe of Horseheads; great grandchildren: Kelsey Richardson of Rochester, Caleb Richardson of Rochester, Christina Howe of Horseheads; Alexander Howe of Horseheads; several nieces, special friends, Jim and Carol Poust; and companion, Janice Miller. Philip was predeceased by his brother, Larry Rhoda.
Friends may call on Thursday, May 5th from 1 until 2 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning where funeral services will follow calling hours at 2:00 PM. Committal services will be for both Philip and his wife, Alberta in Coopers Plains Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to meet at the VFW on Bakers St. at 4:00 pm.
