Jacob is the son of Johannes Christian Petefish (Biedefisch) and Anna Maria Mueller. He married Elizabeth Price on March 24, 1807 in New Market, Shenandoah County, Virginia.
Information from Ruth L. Lepper in “The Petefish Family in America, 1752-1979” shows Jacob & Elizabeth were the parents of 11 children. They are: William, Mary Ann, Dianah (various spellings), Elizabeth, Sarah Jane, Ellen, Jacob, Samuel H., John A., Andrew Jackson, and Thomas Barton. Jacob, and Elizabeth with eleven children moved from Rockingham County, Virginia, via Ohio, to a farm in old Morgan (now Cass) County, Illinois about 1835 and remained there for the rest of their lives. Jacob dug the first “bricked up” well in Cass County, Illinois. Their descendants placed a stone marker at the well about 1920, calling it "Jacob's well".
