BIOGRAPHY: Saturday, April 24, Mrs Valentine Hartmann Sr, nee Rosalie Dellinger, passed to the great beyond at the ripe old age of nearly 80 years. Deceased was born in the beautiful German province of Alsace Lorraine, August 30, 1835, and, her father being a teacher, received a good common school education. At the age of 18, she and her two sisters who preceeded her to the grave, left the Fatherland and came to St Louis. After a short sojourn in that city, the late Mrs Hartmann came to Benedict where her oldest sister, the late Mrs Claus, received her into her home. It was here that her surviving husband made her acquaintance and induced her to share life's joys and sorrows with him. Thee were married about 57 years ago in Shakopee and established their home on the old Hartmann homestead about 1 1/2 mile east of Benedict
Here in the wilderness, they raised a family of eight children, all now living, and by dint of hard labor and economy, became comparatively well to do. In later years they bought another farm on the banks of the Raven Stream, within a few rods of Benedict church, where they toiled until their son Valentine bought the farm They now make their home with him and enjoyed the fruits of their life's work. About seven years ago, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
BIOGRAPHY: The deceased is survived by her husband and eight children, sixty grandchildren and twenty five great grandchildren. Their children are Rosalie, now Mrs John Seibert, Anton and Valentine of Benedict, Louisa, now Mrs Gregor Wermershirchen of St James, Mary, now Mrs Melchoir Wermershirchen and Philip and Joseph of Pierz and Theresia , now Mrs Bruner of Canada.
BIOGRAPHY: A large concourse of relatives and friends gathered Tuesday, April 27, to pay their last respects to the deceased by escorting her remains to the last resting place. In the Benedict cemetery in the shadow of the church which she loved and attended for over fifty years, she was laid to rest after the pastor, Rev Hildebrand OFM, had sung a requiem mass for her repose, with the confident hope that her soul has found that peace and rest for which she had yearned the last few years of her life.
