Donald A. McQueen, age 90, of Bad Axe, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Courtney Manor Nursing Center following a lingering illness.

He was born on September 8, 1920 in Snover, son of the late John and Bessie (Emigh) McQueen. He married Edith C. Morse, daughter of the late Bazil and Crystal Shirl Morse, on December 27, 1946 in Marlette.

Don was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. As a young man, he farmed the family homestead. Then, he enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and survived Iwo Jima. He was employed for many years at the former Moczik Tool & Die Co. of Bad Axe. He and his son, (Donald James "Jim" McQueen, deceased) owned and operated the Golden Fawn Bar in Argyle for several years. He then went to work for Thumb Tool & Engineering of Bad Axe, retiring in 1991. He was an avid enthusiastic bowler for many years, enjoyed playing cards, and was a loyal Detroit Tiger fan.

He is survived by his wife, Edith McQueen of Bad Axe; two daughters: Cheryl (R. Daniel) Ross of Harrison and Carol (Theodore) Polk of Filion; one daughter-in-law, Maggie (Duane) Roggenbuck of Snover; one sister, Catherine (Fox) King of Cass City; seven grandchildren: Rachelle (Thomas) Neddo and Renee Ross, both of Taylor, Garrett Polk and his financee, Sherry Hosler of Shelby Township, Brenda Polk of Phoenix, AZ, Donald Arthur (Roseanne) McQueen of Zeeland, James Morse (special friend Tressa) McQueen of Lapeer, and Matthew McQueen of Indiana; three great-grandsons; one greatgranddaughter; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Carmen and Lloyd Marks of Rose City; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He is predeceased by his son, Donald James McQueen in January of 1994; his brother, John William McQueen and his wife Marion; his sister, Sarah and her husband Clayton Bullis; sister-in-law and her husband, Dr. Crystal M. and Elmer "Ike" Lange; brothers-in-law: Milton Fox and Gerald King.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe, with Fr. Rob Howe, pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to Courtney Manor Nursing Center, the Bad Axe Public Library, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Kaufman Funeral Home, Bad Axe.
