U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator. He attended Georgetown University Washington D.C., (1879-82), was night inspector of customs in New Orleans, (1885-88) and was appointed assistant weigher and statistician, (1888-89). He then studied law at Tulane University, graduating in 1889, was admitted to the bar and proceeded to practice law in New Iberia, Louisiana. He was prosecuting attorney of the Louisiana nineteenth judicial district, (1892-97). In 1897, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth and to the eight succeeding Congresses, serving until 1915. He was then elected as a Democrat in 1915, to the United States Senate and served until his death at age 53. U. S. Senator Edwin Sidney Broussard, was his brother.
