Peter Baer died at his home, 711 East Second street at one o'clock Monday morning, January 15th. Mr. Baer would have been seventy-nine years of age on the 12th of August, 1940. He suffered a stroke at about eleven-fifteen o'clock Sunday morning for his son Will found him unconscious shortly thereafter when he called at his father's home to see if everything was well with him. He had not been sick. Mr. Baer lived alone since the death of his wife in 1938. Peter Baer was born in Muscatine, Iowa, on the 12th of August, 1861. He grew to manhood there and married Sophia Meyers of that city on September 20th, 1886. One child came to them, Frank Baer, now of Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Baer died when Frank was born. On December 30th, 1892, Mr. Baer married Cornelia De Bruyn, also in Muscatine. One son, William Baer of Pella was born to them. She passed away on the 7tb of May, 1938. Mr. Baer joined the Lutheran church of Muscatine in young manhood. Most of his adult life, with the exception of two years spent in Eddyville, Iowa, was spent in Pella, where for many years he owned a cigar factory. Of late years he has been in the employ of Charley LeCocq, still making cigars. Mr. Baer had many friends. Surviving are Frank E. Baer of Los Angeles and William Baer of Pella. One brother, William Baer of Kansas City, Mo., survives also. Frank, the son and William, the brother are expected here for the funeral. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, January 18th, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. at the Co-operative Burial Association Funeral Home.
