L.C. "Neal" Greenfield, 84, of Jamestown died today, Jan. 4, 2001, at Batesville.

Born Sept. 19, 1916, in Stark Springs (Independence County), he was the son of William Lawrence and Cora Magdalene Cantrell Greenfield. He was a retired owner of Greenfield and Son Custom Metal for 50 years. He was of the Protestant faith, a lifetime resident of Independence County and a member of Modern Woodmen of the World.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Velmarie York Greenfield; a son, Larry and Shirley Greenfield of Batesville; a daughter, Shirley and Harlon Martin of Batesville; three grandchildren, Dr. Shannon Greenfield and wife, Lea, of Little Rock, Laura Anderson and husband, Bryan, of Batesville and Amy Caplinger and husband, Eric, of Jonesboro; a great-grandchild, Evan Greenfield; and nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Alton Greenfield, Marvin Greenfield, Malcolm Greenfield, Samuel Greenfield, Douglas Greenfield and Thurman Greenfield; and three sisters, Lola Page, Opal Barnes and Jewel Roberts.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Roller-Crouch Chapel with the Rev. Richard Nuckolls officiating. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery with Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers are Charles Greenfield, Jimmy Greenfield, Olin Dobbs, Roger Roberts, Winfred Reed and Bryan Anderson.

Honorary pallbearers are employees of Greenfield and Son Custom Metal.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 tonight.
