|Birth: ||Sep. 4, 1811|
New York, USA
|Death: ||May 14, 1883|
Mr. Isaac Fitch, who has been a resident of Hastings for the past nine years, died Monday afternoon after a lingering illness, aged seventy-one years, eight months, and ten days.
He was born in Cooperstown, New York, September 4, 1811, and was married to Miss Sarepta R Parker March 31, 1835, who with five children survive him; Edwin S and Dr. Julius C, of Hastings, Andrew P, of Glencoe, Mrs. Laura A Little, of Geneseo, Ill., and Mrs. Alice S Kinsey, of Stuart, Ia. They were all here this week.
He was of a very active temperament, possessing an iron constitution which kept him up to the last, thus deceiving his most intimate friends. Industry and sobriety were marked characteristics of his life, and that implicit faith in Christ Jesus, which had sustained him through the vicissitudes and trials of fifty years' contact with the world, did not desert him in the hour of death, but he was enabled to say, "It is all right," "Thy will not mine be done."
His life was insured for $1,000 in the New York Mutual, the policy dating from 1848, and probably the oldest one in the north-west.
The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon from the house, the Reverend Alex Telford officiating, and was quite generally attended. The remains were interred in Lakeside Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Louise Fitch.
