Trooper Adam Bowen was killed when his patrol car was invovled in a collision.
Trooper Bowen was responding to call for assistance from another officer. He was traveling westbound on Route 6 and has he entered the intersection of Route 3 and Madison Drive, his patrol car collided with a vehicle that was travailing eastbound. The impact forced the patrol car to run off the road and strike the traffic pole. The patrol car was split in half by the force of the impact and the front end of the vehicle continued into a nearby parking lot where it struck three parked cars. Trooper Bowen died at the scene.
Trooper Bowen had served with the Virginia State Police for three years. He had previously served with the U.S. Air Force National Guard and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He is survived by his parents and fiancé.

Trooper Bowen graduated from the Virginia State Police Academy's 114th Basic Session on July 3, 2008. Since graduation, he has been assigned to the Area 44 Office, which includes King George and Caroline counties. Prior to joining the state police, Trooper Bowen spent five years with the U.S. Air Force National Guard. He served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
On the evening of Friday, June 24, 2011, Trooper Bowen was responding to a call to assist a state police agent. Trooper Bowen was traveling westbound on Route 3/Kings Highway. As he entered the intersection of Route 3 and Madison Drive, his marked Ford Crown Victoria patrol car collided with an eastbound vehicle. Trooper Bowen was killed instantly.
"The tragic and sudden death of Trooper Bowen is a tremendous loss to his Virginia State Police family and King George County," said Colonel W. Steven Flaherty, Virginia State Police Superintendent. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam's family, friends, and fellow troopers during this difficult time."
Trooper Bowen, a native of Warsaw, Virginia, is survived by his fiancé, parents, brother and grandparents.

Trooper Adam Maynard Bowen, 28, of Warsaw, died in the line of duty Friday, June 24, 2011. Trooper Bowen became a Virginia State Police Trooper in 2008. He was also a veteran of the Air National Guard having served in Iraq.
Survivors are his father, Glenn R. Bowen; his mother, R. Sue Bowe; his fiancée, Rachel Michelle Michie; his brother Kevin R. Bowen; and his grandparents, L. Randolph Bowen, Beatrice Bowen, and Maytrus Self; his niece, Kylie M. Bowen. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Maynard Alderman.
Adam will always be his brother's hero and he will always be the love of his family and fiancée's heart. It may not have been on paper but Adam and Rachel were husband and wife, he is the love of her life now and forever, and that will never change.
Funeral services will be held at W & L High School, Montross, Va. at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. The family will receive friends prior to the services from 10 to 12 noon.
