My mother's sister, my Aunt Louise, was one of my favorite aunts. I loved her trait of brutal honesty -- what went in her ear came out her mouth, as my sister used to put it. She didn't whitewash anything and I loved it. It seems that I inherited her ability to call a spade a spade.
She was the 4th of 9 children of Robert and Mary (Bradley) Nash. Her mother planned to name her Louise after her mother, who had no middle name. However, her father didn't get along well with his mother-in-law and when he blessed her, he added the name Hazel to the name. He never would call her Louise, either, just Hazel, which she detested!
She was a decendant of Utah pioneers and a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She always wanted to be a cowgirl. She just knew if Roy Rogers saw her, he'd want to marry her! Her younger sister, Wilma, recalls that she once sang a song on a local radio show and dressed up like a cowgirl for the event. Her photo was even taken. They were all excited to hear her on the radio. That was the closest she'd come to realizing her dream.
She was almost 16 when her family moved to Butte, Montana from Tooele, Utah.
She married Clarence Robert Moran on June 12, 1941 in Butte. They had 4 children, Bob, Shirley, Linda, and Steve. They were married over 54 years. They lived in Butte, Montana most of their married life. They moved to Orem, Utah in the late 1980s.
Aunt Louise always had a beautiful yard filled flowers and shrubs. She said that people see the outside of your house more than they do the inside. She was meticulous about her yard.
She died of a massive heart attack the day after her 72nd birthday.
I miss her so much!
