William was born to Rudy and Ethel Klein. He was raised by his mother and grandparents. When he was 17 years old, he met a young lady named Elaine. However, he decided to serve his country and enlisted in the US Army on April 23, 1963. He served in Korea for fourteen months during the Vietnam Era.

During Bill's time in the service, he kept in touch with Elaine, and after he was discharged, they married. They had two children, and later divorced.

Bill worked in Chicago at the post office for a time, and then moved back home to Wisconsin and worked making furniture.

Bill has two children who live in Chicago, six grandsons, two great grandsons and one great granddaughter. He also has many friends who miss him and his famous chili! His best friend, Midnight the Cat, is being raised by loving foster parents.
