He served as Captain of the 5th McKenzie's TN cavalry Regiment, sixth company, company I, Organized 19 Jul, 1862 at Shiloh, Hawkins county; men from Meigs and Hamilton counties. Ordered to 13th Battalion as Co. I, 9 Oct, 1862, from Meigs County,Fifth Tennessee Calvary. He's in the 1850, 1860 Meigs Co. Census with all children named, including those of Lucretia' by first spouse. Capt. W. W. Lillard was first a 3rd Lt in Capt. G. W. McKenzies Co. organized July 1861. Served his enlistment, came home and organized this company July 1862.

Second wife: Jacintha Ann Barr (1838-1912)married 29 Jul 1873 TN. Parents unknown. Children: Lucy L A, Walter H "Harry W", Fora Belle and Addie Victoria Lillard.
