Obituary, Somerset Herald, March 28, 1894
Deitrich Trimpey, a diminutive German of Middle Creek Twp., whose striking personality was familiar to people having business before the courts of this [Somerset, PA] county during the past several decades, died on the 17th inst. He lived all alone and it is not known at what hour the dread summons came to him. He was found by some of his neighbors sitting in a rocking chair, still in death. He was probably 73 years of age." (He was actually 80, and birth and baptism was verified in the church records in Neuenkirchen, Germany.)
Grave is unmarked, but the record of burial here exists in the death record at the Somerset County Court House, Orphan's Court.
Dietrich was the first Trimpey to arrive in the USA, and led the way for cousins to follow in a few years. The "y" was added to the name to Americanize it. Family members in Germany still spell it Trimpe, and many later immigrants to the midwest kept the Trimpe spelling.
